The Institute of Fire Safety Managers was formed in 1993 as an organisation that would provide a professional ‘haven’ for those people who were involved directly with fire safety management in industry and commerce.
At this point in time there was no professional institute or association specifically for the industry.
Following a push by the UK based Fire Protection Association (FPA), a diploma in fire prevention was presented by the FPA, closely followed by the European Diploma in Fire Prevention by the confederation of European Fire Protection Association (CFPA).
