Overview

Chemicals in one form or another are in widespread use in the workplace. The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations, ensure these hazardous substances are subjected to strict controls in their storage and use to minimise their potential to cause harm.

This course has been designed to equip delegates with the knowledge and skills to lead or participate in a structured COSHH assessment programme that will meet both legal requirements and recognised good practice.

Course Content Includes

• Properties of chemicals likely to be met in the workplace
• Types of health conditions arising from chemical exposure by: Inhalation, ingestion, skin/eye
• contact or absorption.
• Understanding material safety data sheets and the requirements for packaging and labelling of        hazardous substances.
• Workplace exposure limits (WEL’s) and the requirement for environmental monitoring.
• The Chemicals (hazard, information and packaging for supply) Regulations.
• The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations.
• COSHH assessment in practice including the breaking down of activities into manageable units, collecting and evaluating information and implementing control measures.
• Managing the COSHH programme.
• Practical assessment exercises.
